McGuinness hails Donegal fans for being their 16th player!

Jim McGuinness has said Donegal’s supporters are already playing a vital role in his team’s resurgence.

The Donegal manager has led his side to back-to-back Ulster Championship wins at Celtic Park in Derry.

And on both occasions a large and vocal Donegal support spurred his team on to victory over Derry and Tyrone.

The Glenties man says that support has been vital for his team to get over the line.

“It means everything. There was a chant for Donegal there in the last couple of minutes of injury time in extra-time.

“You could just sense that energy and listen, that’s what it’s all about. We want that for our supporters.

“But we also want it for the players. This is what it’s all about. It’s the players being part of big days and trying to get over the line on big days.

He told RTE “It’s the Ulster championship. Teams are very well organised, very well prepared, they play on the edge and ask a lot of questions of you and you just have to try and find those solutions.

“That’s really what it’s all about and we’ll be back to ground zero in two weeks’ time. It’s going to be a really tough battle and everybody has to prepare for that.”

Although many made the relatively short trip to Derry City for the last two games, McGuinness is hopeful even more supporters make it a day out to Clones on Sunday week for the Ulster Final against Armagh.
